Oats Khichdi/Porridge |
Ever since Saffola has started to advertise in a big way by offering a recipe book, I have become a big fan of it. Although I have just tried the "Coconut oats burfi", would love to try other recipes as well from the book.
I love to include oats in one or the other form in the daily breakfast recipes and one such dish I had recently prepared was "Oats Khicdhi" with lots of vegetables.
Sure shot a good way to make a kids have oats as well as vegetables. This is one of the fav. of my husband and son. Here it goes.
Ingredients Quantity
Oats : 2 cups
Moong dal(Sprouted) : 1/2 cup
Peas : 1/2 cup
Carrot chopped : 1/2 cup
Tomato chopped : 1/4 cup
Beans chopped : 1/2 cup
Onion chopped : 1/2 cup (Optional- I didn't use Onion)
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli powder : 1/2 tsp
Ginger garlic paste : 1 tsp
Water : 2 cups
Oil : 1and half tsp
Ghee : 1 tsp
Salt : As per taste
To seasoning
Green Chilli : 1 chopped
Coriander leaves : 1 tbsp finely chopped
Lemon juice : - 1 tsp

Preparation Method:
- In a pressure cooker, heat oil, add ginger garlic paste and saute for 1-2 mins, then add the sprouted moong and mix well.
- Add the turmeric powder and chilli powder and saute for one min.
- Add all the vegetables and mix well and saute for another 2 mins.Add salt as well.
- Now add the oats and saute it for 2-3 mins.
- Add water and quickly stir it. Add the ghee as well.
- Pressure cook the entire content for 10-15 mins till the moong dal gets cooked.
- Remove from flame and mix well and drizzle ghee.
- Serve it hot with chutney.
I used to hate oats....but now health reason my wife looks for various different Oats reciepes and make them for me. This looks delicious....i ll ask her to make it for me:-)
