Semiya(vermicelli) payasam

Semiya payasam
"Semiya payasam/seviyan kheer" is one of the rich, yummiest and yet simplest payasams any one can prepare, when there is a lack of time. I prepare this whenever there is a demand for something sweet and there is a time crunch.

Pulse Appe

One of my dearest friends wanted to know the recipe for Appe and I misunderstood it to be "Unni appam". So to please my friend, I packed few Unni appams to office when I prepared the same at home. But after few bites she gave me a amused look and said this tastes good but I was referring about the salty and spicy Appe.

Lauki kofta curry

Lauki Kofta curry
I somehow never liked the taste of Lauki/bottle gourd . I still dont understand what taste it imparts into the currys made up of Lauki, so for me it was a no-no, when I started cooking after marriage even though my husband used to get it as often as he could and I used to give it to my maid as often as possible without my husband's knowledge till I learnt that it can be used to prepare delicious Kofta curry which both of us liked.

Mathanga erissery (Kerala style Pumpkin curry)

Mathanga Erissery
Kerala food menu is incomplete without Erissery and it can be prepared using Pumpkin/Raw Banana/Yam. Manthaga/Pumpkin is a healthy and easy version of Erissery which also is an integral part of Kerala Onam sadya but somehow I never liked it much as a kid, but over the years I have developed a liking for it due to the simplicity of this dish and loads of health benefits of "Pumpkin/Mathanga" and I try to include pumpkin weekly once or twice in the diet in any form.

Sabudana/Sago/Javvaris Kheer

Sabudana Kheer

I happened to prepare this kheer by chance, I have never had this kheer before I prepared it my own, when I chanced upon the small sized sabudana. Although first time I didn't succeed much due to lack of proper understanding of proportions but with few trials I have almost mastered it and have prepared it in different ways. Sometimes by adding saffron to milk , sometimes along with Seviyaan/Semiya.

They say cooking is an Art!!!!! there is no denial to it. Its like a blank canvas, where in an artist mixes and matches different colours to convert his/her creativity into a masterpiece and similarly a cook/chef or homemaker uses his/her culinary skills to prepare a dish using different food items, but can you imagine how it feels to a novice cook when it comes to decide "What to cook".
